As we immerse
ourselves in day-to-day life, we rarely get a chance to
spend thinking about what we really want. Sometimes our
only indication that we should re-assess our situation is
a vague sense of dissatisfaction, or lack of motivation.
When you work
with a coach, you set a direction for your life. Your
coach will consistently ask you questions that help you to
clarify what you want, and guide you in setting goals that
are in line with your true values.
Clarity is
powerful. When you can clearly envision what you want, you
set your brain in motion, filtering information to notice
what is relevant to your vision. Have you ever noticed how
once you notice a certain model of car you begin to see it
everywhere? This natural filtering process attunes you to
opportunities you never noticed before. With a clear
vision, you don’t just see what you want, but you begin to
see how you can get it, and this awareness of possibility
knocks down barriers and opens a path for you to freely
move towards your goals.
Synergy
When you work with a
coach, you have two brains focused on one goal – that of
getting you from where you are now to where you want to
be. The coach operates on your agenda, sharing ideas,
perspective, and experience related to what you are trying
to accomplish. Through the coaching conversations you
bounce ideas back and forth, get feedback, test your
logic, play "what if" scenarios, and think through how you
want to handle situations in your life.
Synergy is
powerful. Your coach stays with you as you push outside of
your comfort zone. She celebrates successes with you, and
encourages you to stretch yourself. When you fall, your
coach is there to help you dust off your coat and get
going again. Having someone believe in you helps you
believe in yourself, and take courageous steps you would
have otherwise avoided.
Accountability
In a coaching
relationship you meet with your coach regularly. In each
session you commit to action items, and when you report
back the following week, you discuss how you did. The
"homework" in coaching is based on what you want to do for
yourself. But with a coach you have someone outside
yourself to answer to.
Accountability is
powerful. You do a project because it is due and you’ll be
asked about it, even though you may have otherwise let it
go. When your priorities are run by outsiders pulling at
you, your coach gives you some balance, pulling for you to
take the time that is required to create the life you
want.
Investment
When you hire a
coach, you invest time, money, and energy into improving
yourself and getting the life you want. It’s a commitment
that sets aside a certain amount of your time and mental
energy each week and combines it with a wealth of
knowledge, resources and support from your coach. All
those resources are focused on your goals.
It is difficult
to allocate that much time to your personal growth without
a structure or outside support system to anchor you. The
investment you make with your coach is powerful. It
captures the resources and channels them towards the
outcomes you define, enabling you to live a full,
meaningful life, created, and enjoyed daily, by you.
